Wendell Steward Scholarship/Southwest Homebuilders Association Scholarship Fund

Eligibility:

  • Applicants must be United States citizens and graduating high school seniors from Moore Public Schools.
  • Planning to attend an academic or technological program that will lead to a career in the construction industry. Students may major in construction trades, construction management, construction engineering, construction technology, structural engineering or architecture.
  • Financial need is considered.

Funds may be used for educational-related expenses such as tuition, fees and books at any academically accredited two-year, four-year or vocational technical nonprofit institution in the United States. Payments are made directly to the school. No more than six credit hours may be completed online each semester. These awards may be renewable based on the fund balances.

Please note: Completion of this application will qualify you for both the Wendell Steward Scholarship and the Southwest Homebuilders Association Scholarship.

The Wendell Steward Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor the contributions of Wendell Steward to the association and the community.

The Southwest Homebuilders Association Scholarship was created in 2021 to encourage graduating high school seniors of Moore Public Schools to pursue higher education leading to careers in the construction industry. These are both endowed scholarship funds of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation promoted in conjunction with the Southwest Homebuilders Association.

  2. Describe one to three activities (these may be employment, volunteer, or hobby) that have contributed to your interest in a career in the construction industry.
  3. Did you submit your household's FAFSA Student Aid Report (SAR) for the coming year when you completed the General Application? (NOTE: If you answered "no,” please know that financial need may be considered for this scholarship. To be eligible for this scholarship, you need to return to the General Application and attach a FAFSA or a 1040 if you cannot complete the FAFSA.) If you cannot complete the FAFSA, please indicate your financial circumstances on your General Application under the particular circumstances question.
